he/him
My name is Lotus Đỗ (he/him/his). I am a therapist, gender specialist, educator and consultant of Vietnamese descent and transgender lived experience. I have nearly a decade of experience providing mental health services with a specialty in treating gender dysphoria with co-occurring psychiatric and medical conditions. I practice an interdisciplinary perspective that is culturally responsive, trauma informed and holistic.
Tell us: what excites you about your work right now?
With deep gratitude for this generous funding, I will be able to literally invest in the healing and financial independence of the most marginalized members of our communities - Black and Indigenous trans femmes. I understand that by centering and uplifting my Black and Indigenous sisters, all of our communities will be transformed. I witness the great misallocation of wealth in this country and how it hurts us individually and collectively.
I am excited for the very real possibility of financial liberation for our communities within one or two generations. When equipped with strategic funding, education, skills and mentorship for building wealth, our communities will prosper. I am most excited for those that come after us to live in the reality of wealth and abundance.
What feels rich and abundant in your work right now?
As a holistic clinical therapist, the infinite possibilities of our future feels rich and abundant. I have had the honor of guiding individuals and families work through intergenerational and collective grief and trauma. I have witnessed the transformation that occurs physically, mentally and spiritually when we are able to align ourselves with our authentic self, purpose and ancestors. I hope to be able to continue guiding my community in their healing by adding services to address the real impacts of capitalism.
Who do you dedicate your work to?
Those who came before me and will come after me.
More specifically, my mother, To Van Do, who came to California as a refugee from Viet Nam.
Who inspires you, who are you learning from, what books are you reading? We are really excited to learn this about you!
I learn and practice with my spiritual mentor, M (they/them/their's), and our spiritual community. In my spiritual practice, Creator communicates to me through those around me and in the present moment in a calm, loving manner. I learn from being present and listening for the medicine all around me, including from nature and animals.
I am currently reading Total Meditation by Dr. Deepak Chopra. I am also revisiting Transcending: Trans Buddhist Voices.
How can people reading this support the work you are doing?
I believe and practice Dana and Metta. If you do too, please offer Metta to me and those I continue to guide for clarity and strength in our purpose. If you would like to offer Dana, you can do so by purchasing sliding scale tickets for future webinars and courses or Venmo @lotusdo subject "FLM" for Financial Liberation Movement. 100% of donations and proceeds are reinvested into Black, Indigenous and Trans Femme community members.
What something you didn’t know, that now you understand differently with wellness?
Wellness is not the absence of pain, but the ability to move through pain without suffering.
What is your own wellness practice? How do you find balance?
I have a spiritual practice that involves daily inventories, fellowship, accountability to Creator and prayer. My spiritual practice guides me through uncertain and difficult situations. My spiritual practice also helps me accept my limitations and boundaries, as well as honor others as they are. A deep level of acceptance allows me to be in balance with all life around me.
