Taganyahu Swaby is a Jamaican acupuncturist, martial artist, and an award-winning filmmaker. After producing and directing films and training Capoeira Angola in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil, he spent a decade teaching martial arts and mindfulness to at-risk and incarcerated youth in New York City. He went on to study acupuncture and Chinese medicine and co-founded a community clinic, Lefferts Community Acupuncture, in Brooklyn in 2016. In 2021, Taganyahu founded Yaad Wellness, a BIPOC-led center for health and well-being in Catskill, NY. He teaches Capoeira Angola and Qi Gong and offers patients affordable, high-quality treatment and the knowledge and skills to thrive in body and spirit in New York and abroad.
My healing journey began when I was diagnosed with an autoimmune illness at the age of 23.
It feels so great to have a space where I can do the work that I came into this lifetime to do. It has given me the motivation to carry out my life's purpose. It has provided me with a space to help people help themselves. It has given me a platform to connect to people and build community.
People can best support my work by showing up in the space and attending to what they need to find their fullest selves. Their transformation contributes to our own collective growth and the purpose of the space.
